IE Doesn't Connect

I am having a problem getting IE and Messenger to work with dial-up. I can
connect and other browsers will work, but IE when told to go to a URL like
cnn.com... it will search and at the bottom of IE it is showing cnn.com.com
and cnn.com.org and then eventaully says it cannot display page, like we
aren't even connected. Messenger was working until i went into internet
options and windows firewall and set everything to default, and then i
allowed the program msngr to be allowed under the firewall settings, but it
still will not connect. Thanks for the help!
