Computers dropping internet connection
I have 6 computers CAT5 hardwired to a home network with a cable modem, a
router, and two switches. Every few days, one of the computers loses its'
internet connection. This is completely random (which computer and/or when).
At one time or another - all of them have done it and it is not one more than
the others. Nothing works to fix it (like the "repair button", the connect to
a network option in Vista, nothing I can find). So, I shut down all of the
computers, unplug everything, wait 5-10 minutes, then plug in the modem >
wait for reset > plug in the router > wait for reset > plug in the switches >
wait > turn on the computers. Typically at this point, I have two or three
computers that now have the same original problem. So, I reset again and
again. About the 5th or 6th reset, all computers work again - but this
typically takes 1 hour if I'm lucky, and 3 hours if I have to reset 10+ times.
My questions are this: Is there any way to stop this from happening? If not,
is there an easier way to get the failed computer connected again without
going through this reset process?

By the way, usually the "Network Connection Status" box says: "Connected,
Firewalled, Duration: xx:xx:xx, 100.0 Mbps, Sent xxxxx, Received xxxxx. In
other words, it looks like the internet connection is working fine - but it
isn't. I get "Page not found" no matter what I do until I reset the entire
system 6-10 times.

Thanks for your help with this very frustrating problem...

David

This problem "seems" to with the cable modem and router. Your ISP may
have some type of limit placed on the cable service where they decide
that your access needs to reset. As for the router, check with the
manufacturer for any FAQs on this type of problem and any possible
firmware update.
