How do I get the LAN card to work?

I have 2 PCs. One is using realtek LAN card and the other is using Dlink LAN
card. The realtek LAN card worked fine on either PC. The Dlink LAN card
always get the message limited or no connectivity. How do I resolve this
problem? I have already downloaded and installed the Dlink LAN driver for
that card but to no avail.

Current situation is as follow:
I'm using cable modem connected to DSL router with 4 ports, one being the
LAN/WAN port.
The PC with the Realtek LAN card can connect to the internet without problem
but not the PC with the Dlink LAN card.
If i setup static local IP on both PC, both PC can communicate without
problem which I concluded that the Dlink LAN card is not faulty.

Both my PC uses Windows XP SP2
My current connection is Cable modem ==> DSL Router ==>PC1 Realtek LAN card

==>PC2 Dlink LAN card

If I understand your situation:

A. Realtek card works on both computers
B. DLink card doesn't work on either computer

Thus, your conclusion that the DLink card is not faulty does not appear
to be warranted.

Buy another card. They are not expensive.

If I set static IP, both the Dlink card and the Realtek card can communicate

Just another question. Is it possible to use ADSL modem router as a router
connected to cable modem? i.e. I don't use the phone jack on the ADSL modem
but use the WAN port and connect it to the cable modem. Then connect 2 PCs to
the LAN ports. My ADSL modem is Siemen Speedstream 6520. The router looks
like this

this is confusing. are you saying you have this all in one Siemens
device connected to a separate cable modem NOW? or are you using an
different router and want to replace it with this 6520?

You'd have to check the user manual on this one. Usually, with the
all in one gateways that act as cable/DSL modems and provide router
functionality, it is not possible to use them properly behind a
stand along cable modem, etc.

Yes, at the moment I have this Siemens ADSL router modem behind a cable
modem. And 2 PCs behind this ADSL router modem. only 1 PC is working and can
access the internet. But I think the ADSL router is not working as it should
be because the PC that can connect to the internet has the IP assigned by the
ISP rather than the local IP from the router. From what I understand is that
the router should have the IP assigned from the ISP and then assigned local
IP to the 2 PCs.
The modem manual is too technical for me to understand completely.

A lot of these all in one devices are not able to do this. does the
PC behind this hardware combo have a private IP or a public IP?

you might want to check dslreports.com and see if others have made
this combination work.

I got public IP and can browse the net. But sometimes after I reset the DSL
modem, I got private IP and can't browse the net.
How do I set this ADSL router modem to accept the public IP from my ISP?
