log on window problem

I am using an XP-pro version (1985-2001) on my toshiba R100 and since then
never had any issues witn the software or whatever, and the XP had been
performing brilliantly well, but today. Just of this morning I couldn't
figure out how I could connect back to my wireless router as I have just
changed my wireless security feature, and during the process of trying to
figure out my laptop's wireless Smart Card and certificates I happen to
restart my laptop.. but during the process though, a small screen came out
(windows log on screen) prompting my username and password. However, an old
username automatically has been provided in the username box and I can no
longer remember my password for it. I kept on trying though, but to no avail.
I need immediate help for this section very badly. Anything will be highly
appreciated. Thank you!

In this case, you may want to reset the wireless router to default settings
so that you can access it and re-configure the security. This is an example
how to reset d-link router

How to reset d-link router to factory default settingsIn general, to reset

Can you type your current username and password in the log on screen
boxes?

If not, please describe exactly what the log on screen looks like.

Yes i did try to type in my current username and password but it just
prompted me back to use the correct username/domain and password.

The log on screen it has provided appeared just right after the full screen
windows XP logo.. quite a small classic microsoft XP-pro one situated in the
center of the lid screen/monitor with the username and password boxes
provided, and just underneath a prompt "OK", "shutdown" and "option>>"
respectively. There is also a "cancel " button along with the above prompts
but it is not highlighted.

I still do have the R100 recovery discs, though, but I don't know if it is
of appropriate use for such problem.

You are absolutely right with your analysis. I hope that the information
that I and will provide will enlighten and seek answer to the discussion.

A small classic microsoft window that is with a username and password boxes with a prompt, "OK, shutdown and options" underneath. Thank you!

I might add that some wireless-card drivers (inexplicably) replace gina.dll,
and this causes all sorts of havoc with Windows Logon. This may be why it
went wrong at that point.

I've also seen cases where they change the logon from Welcome Screen to he
corporate style. Which I think is what's happened here. To put this back,
boot into safe mode, logon as Administrator, and in Control Panel>Users,
select 'Change the way users log on..'

> Correct, booting the system into safe mode did solve the the entire mess. Thank you for the input! I really would like to extend my appreciation. In the process, though, after deleting user password and changing the settings, in switching back to normal mode, I was prompted to uninstall 'client user for netware' in the network properties. Now I am logging-in in the welcome screen (not the corporate screen) and my laptop is again working perfectly well in wireless mode.
