Wireless card disables itself cannot enable
Hi all,
I have a lenovo n100 with an intel pro 3945abg wireless card. I've
almost always wired in with it but now that I have moved I must use
wireless. The network is unsecured and the router is a netgear cg814wg
cable modem/router. I leave my computer on all day. I am running
norton AV and zonealarm.

Some days when I get home the wireless card is disabled and I cannot
enable it without crashing (the whole computer does not crash, the
"enabling wireless device" just sits there and nothing happens).

Other days I get home and it claims to be connected, but is not and
when I try to reconnect, it crashes (again, not the whole computer,
just the app). The only way to fix this is to reboot.

I used to have this problem with the lenovo thinkvantage, but I
uninstalled thinking it was the problem and I have no real need for
the program, but the problem persists.

I've looked at the error logs and I think it has something to do with
dhcp. I think my computer is having trouble renewing its ip address.
I've already given it a static ip through the router, but I am still
having the problem.

I'd be glad to hear any ideas,
-Matt

Re: Wireless card disables itself cannot enable
Hi
The card probably goes to sleep and the Wireless disconnects.
Get the Wireless card out of the Power saving mode.

Re: Wireless card disables itself cannot enable
first, you need to secure the wireless. preferably with WPA2 or at
least WPA. is this your hardware or your broadband providers?

Re: Wireless card disables itself cannot enable
I'm with you on the security issue, but I can't get my roomates to let
me do it. They say they've had it before and it was nothing but a
headache...

I just changed the power setting, so now I'll just wait and see if
that worked.

Wireless card is the computer's internal wan card. The router may be
from the cable company but I have full access to it.
