Any simple free FTP server that doesn't install background service?
Hello.
Sometimes I have to send some large files to friends. E-mail is not
suitable for this. Messengers are good but sometimes they don't use
that messenger. FTP seems to be the best choice since it doesn't
require any account or special software (Internet Explorer has built-
in ftp client feature).

I've searched Google for FTP servers but most of them are too bloated
and expensive. I don't even need multi-client support since I have
only one person to send files to. Moreover most of them alter the
registry by installing and running background services, and too
difficult to configure.

Is there any simple FTP server that only runs when I execute the
executable and leaves no footprint when I close it? I mean, no
background service or registry change.

Thanks for any information.

Be aware that most residential-class ISP's and some lower-tier
small business ones specifically
state in their terms of service that you are forbidden to run
a server and they can disconnect you if you do.

If you know that this doesn't apply to you, then nevermind.

Maybe try Yousendit:
http://www.yousendit.com/
Up to 100MB per file is free, more than that it's a paying service.

Re: Any simple free FTP server that doesn't install background service?
Hi
This ftp server is am excellent application, it is free, and it gives you a
choice between using, or not as a service.
http://filezilla-project.org/download.php?type=server
Windows IIs includes an ftp server too, and need more learning then a simple
stand alone application but it provide more flexibility.

The user could always change the settings to non-standard ports, not
that I would ever do such a thing.

Look for an ftp server app that can be installed on a USB fob.
