Windows XP File Sharing Password prompt

Hi,
I have some difficulty on sharing file access.
I want to share folders on my network and I would like people to have
to log in when trying to access a shared folder. I can't get a dialog
box to pop up and ask for a username and password, it just says access
denied as the login account was not same as the security rights for
the folder.
Is there a way to set the folder with a username and password login
without following the users account.
Meaning just give the person who want to login the username and
password to access the shared folder even though the person is in
other account name.

Windows networking doesn't work that way. When connecting to
another machine, you authenticate to the machine with a user and
password. Thus you must create a user account/password on the host
machine for each connecting user. After a user authenticates, he may
access files that that user is permitted to access.

If a user connects from another machine, the user name/password on
the machine that he is connecting from is tried. If they match,
then access is automatically granted with permissions for that user.
If the user name exists on the server but the password does not
match, access is denied. If the user name does not exist on the
server, then a prompt window is displayed to enter a
username/password for that connection.
