Is it me or SP3?
Hello,

I've got a problem with XP Home Edition SP2. I upgraded to SP3 and noticed
that UPnP discovery wasn't working anymore. I reset tcpip and winsock,
removed my LAN adapter from the device mgr. and let Windows re-enumerate it,
even uninstalled everything from network properties, then reinstalled . No
go, so I ran "netstat -an" from a command prompt, and noticed that TCP port
2869 was nowhere to be found. However UDP port 1900 was there. I have not
altered my services in any way.

Frustrated I reformatted my drive and did a fresh install, then installed
SP3. Same thing again, no port 2869. I decided then, that I would integrate
SP3 into the build and perform a fresh installation from there. Same thing
again! no tcp port 2869.

Any and all suggestions welcome.

Thanks in advance,

Andrew Leith.

Re: Is it me or SP3?

I have yet to see any word from MS on this issue, however there is
definitely something different about UPnP in SP3, so it's most likely
not you. The main issue has been that whatever changes were made,
certain routers have been crashing after a computer on the network was
upgraded to SP3.

Hurray for undocumented changes! Whether or not these changes affected
which ports UPnP runs on I don't know, but that could have something to
do with the router issue.
