File Folders on network computers have wrong names
We have a home network.

HOME is the main comptuer
LYNN is my laptop
SARA is my daughter's laptop

When I look at "My Network Places" on the HOME computer, it shows the HOME
computer and SARA laptop under LAN Connection and the LYNN laptop under
Internet Connection. Why is that happening? Shouldn't they all be under LAN
Connection?

RE: File Folders on network computers have wrong names
Well, don't know what happened but the subject for this is incorrect. Sorry
about that.

Hi
You should describe how the computers are connected as a Network, the
Internet connection arrangement, and the OS of each computer.

Re: File Folders on network computers have wrong names
Home computer is Master Computer.
Notebook
MS Groups
User Account Name: Eberle
We'll call this one computer "A" to simplify things

Lynn is the laptop that is below it in the network.
Laptop
MS Groups
User Account Name: Lynn
We'll call this computer "B" to simplify things

Both are Windows XP SP 3

When I open MY NETWORK PLACES on computer "B" , I see
Local Network:
My Documents on Lynn (computer B)
SharedDocs on Laptop (Lynn) (computer B)

The Internet:
c on Notebook (Home) (computer A)
My Documents on Notebook (Home) (computer A
SharedDocs on Notebook (Home) (computer A)

It's the reverse when you look at My Network Places on the Home computer. So
that is all correct.

The problem is that when I open up the My Documents on Computer "A" from the
Computer "B", the files titled My Music, My Pictures, My Received Files and
My Videos are renamed to show -- Lynn's Music, Lynn's Pictures, Lynn's
Recieved Files and Lynn's Video which is the computer user name for computer
"B".

Then, when I open My Documents Computer "B" from Computer "A", those same
files are called Eberle''s Music, Eberle's Pictures, Eberle's Recieved Files
and Eberle's Video which is the user name for computer "A".

What is happening is that when viewing the other computers files thru the
network, those files are being renamed to the user account name of the
computer that is viewing it. I'm not sure how to make that clear.

When I view the documents of Computer "A" on Computer "B" shouldn't those
file names stay as My Pictures, My Music etc and not be renamed to the
viewing computers user account name or show the user account name of the
other computer?

The content in the folders does belong to the other computer, it's just the
name of the files that is the issue. I would think if I am viewing the files
OF computer A, then those files should be name for Computer A and not
Computer B.

This is really hard to explain without showing someone. Hope someone
understands what I'm saying.
