Access denied ! Shouldn't XP ask for username & password instead?
I have 2 xp pro serv.pack3 machines on a router.
both machines are password protected and dont use simple file sharing.
--> I would like a user to access the PC in the Network Neigborhood but only
by being promtped a username/passord.
--> i can only access files on the network if I add his name / password on
the local machine, matching the name password on the remote machine, is this
the only way?
Summary: I would like the remote user to be prompted usrname/passwrd instead
of having his name/password added to the local machine, now his name shows up
the welcome screen.
Is there a way the added name and password added can be made to not show on
the welcome screen?

Re: Access denied ! Shouldn't XP ask for username & password instead?
In this case, you should not create the same username on both computers.
Assuming computer A username is called Auser and computer B has Buser. You
will use Auser name and password accessing computer from the computer B when
it prompts for the username and password. Or check this how to for more
details.

Protect a shared folder using passwordWhen accessing the shared folder from
another computer with different username, a screen will prompt for asking
the username and password. Related Topics ...

Re: Access denied ! Shouldn't XP ask for username & password inste

Yes, both PC A and PC B have different username/passords to access their own
pc's.
I can access the shared files only if the username/password is entered on
the PC A.
- What I would like is for the newly entered username/passord not be showed
on the WELCOME SCREEN at start-up. Is is possible to work around this?
Can the user name /password be entered on the main pc without having it show
up on the Welcome screen?
Thanks Robert.

Assuming you want to auto-logon, this post may help.
