Office Network set-up problem & ???
Okay all, here is the situation:
1--I've successfully set up a home network with a wireless router, 2
wireless laptops and 2 desktop PCs (by wire. 2 have XP, 1 with 98SE & 1
with Vista.. My primary PC that router is connected to is a desktop with
XP. I only had to run the Network Setup Wizard on it, other PCs see the
shared folders/printer I've set on it. So all good to go here,
2--Well, at church, I've attempted same thing to no avail partially. Here's
issues:
For now have same router as at home but only 2 desktop PCs both running XP
(may add more in future). I ran the Network Setup Wizard on PC #1, assigned
shared folders, did a restart. Went to PC#2, made sure it had same
Workgroup name, did restart, it does not see PC#1 but PC#1 sees PC#2 and
shared folders. PC#2 I believe at one time before I became responsible
person, had a network on it but can't identify it.
3--If Home & Church are on same Domain, can I network them together"
Any help or suggestions concerning above?

Thanks, Bill

2) Check the software firewall and anti-virus setting. Some of these
block the "NetBIOS name resolutions" and will block accessing the
system by name (\\Pcname\) but may be able to access it by IP address.
3) How far are the two networks? You need to make sure that the IP
addresses on the two network do not "overlap" since an IP address can
only be assigned to one device.

2--How do I check #2? You speaking of PC#2 here? It has AVG 8 anti-virus.
3--About 7 miles apart. Can it still be done, i.e.:, my home network
connect to the church network?

2) On PC #2, check the firewall software (SP2 built-in module) or test
by disabling AVG. Firewalls and anti-virus can block the access to a
PC by blocking the name being sent over the network (aka NetBIOS name
resolution.) To confirm this, locate the IP address of PC2 and in
Explorer "address" line, try to access the PC via the IP address (\
\192.168.xxx.yyy.) If this works, then you will need to look at the
settings within the firewall / anti-virus.
3) Yes you can. This is known as a VPN (virtual private network)
Requirements:
2 Routers (EX:
http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satel...=1191254480B08)
Always on Internet access : DSL or Cable
IP network schemes:
Home: 192.168.1.xxx
Church : 192.168.2.xxx
