DNS failure on one machine in home network for sites outside of local NAT

My home network is set up with a router that is issuing IP's to the
computers in the house, most of which get dynamic addresses. The computers
are a mix of Win2k, XP Pro and XP Home, all updated regularly. One of the XP
Home computers is having DNS troubles but only for computers outside of the
local network. In other words, ping Google.com doesn't work but a ping of
Google's IP does while a ping Lucky (another computer within the Workgroup)
command works just fine.

I've looked closely at the network settings and don't see anything wrong.
The settings are the same for the failure machine as for an identical
machine that works just fine. My understanding of network things is not
terribly deep so I'm hoping that someone with an understand will help me
out.

The DNS for the LAN and for the Internet are Not the same.
The DNS for the Internet is usually provided by your ISP servers through the
Router's WAN port.
In any case try this process on the "Bad" computer.
