Standby Insomnia
I usually put my WinXP Home desktop into stanby when I won't be using it for
a few hours. i do so using Start | Turn off Computer | Standby

The computer goes to sleep. But occasionally it will spontaneously wake up
after a few minutes.

Any explanation?

Note that I have Power Options set as follows:

Turn off Monitor 10 minutes
Turn off Hard Drive 15 minutes
System Standby 15 minutes

Hibernate is not enabled

But there are also a number of other factors that may take a computer
out of standby. What is the setting for WLan, or Wake-up LAN? Or for
a Wake-up Modem? Even a very sensitive mouse may respond to vibration
or slight jarring. Windows or Office Indexing will re-activate a hard
drive. Perhaps it could be better if the hard drive was left spinning.
Check the settings and play around with them.

In my experience this is usually solved by turning the mouse on its back.

Just the way things are. No problem.
