Can anyone explain just what this registry key does and why my registry cleaner cannot delete it?

I have been using JV16 Tools Registry Cleaner for years, and so far it
has been 100% correct as far as I can tell.

Recently it has run up against this wall which gives this error
message:


: Failed to remove "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\DirectInput\ MostRecentApplication : Id"! Windows core returned the following error: "Access denied or invalid key"






Can anyone explain if not removing this is OK, and should I just
ignore this error message, or is this something that actually should
be removed from the registry? (malware)

Any expert help appreciated.

Everytime I see 'registry cleaner' - no matter how good the given software
may be at assisting in 'tidying up'... I just hear "click click BOOM' in my
head.
