SP3
I finally got my Thinkpad to install SP3 after reading the tips in
this newsgroup and the Thinkpad newsgroup.
However, I seem to be missing about 7 or 8 Gb of drive space
after the install.
Question is does the install keep old data stored somewhere on
the drive and if so, how do you delete it to recover lost space.
I already ran Disc CLeanup and Defregged the drive, but
still missing almot 8 Gb.
Is there any program that shows you graphically where large files
are stored, so you can go to that directory to find out just what's
there and how it got there?
THanks,
Jim

re last paragraph, Sequoiaview may be what you're after
( http://w3.win.tue.nl/nl/onderzoek/on.../sequoiaview//),
but there are many others. They won't show you HOW files got there,
though...

How are you determinimg you lost 8 Gig of space? Are you sure it's not
8 Meg?
Are you making the measurements with the EXACT SAME program
before/after?
Was SP2 already installed? If not, that's where a big chunk of it went.
Is Disk Cleanup set to take care of ALL files, or are some settings not
ticked to be run?
Have you removed the SP3 installer from the drive & copied it to a safe
place?
Have you checked for leftover .tmp and ~*.* files and browser
cache/cookies?
Have you removed any "back to sp2" files for SP3? Not sure there are
any, but ...
I'm sure you back up, right? How about comparing a pre/post backup size
instead?
You could also look for diffs that way if you backed up right
before/after.
Does 8 Gig matter? e.g. what size disk do you have? 40 Gig or 500 Gig?
In other words, you really should provide more data to get a targeted
response.

Re: SP3
Check the size of your system restore area.

Re: SP3
By the little line at the bottom of the Explorer window,
that shows you how much remainings space on
drive you have highlighted, in this case the C: drive.

Re: SP3
Dear Glee;
Just the system restore point fix cleared up over 7 Gb, looks like it
will be back to normal again. Many thanks for these instructions.

Re: SP3
You're Welcome.
There are over a dozen "sticky" posts at the top of that forum, about SP3 issues and
their resolution....most of them by Bill Castner:
