Power scheme changes by itself
I use my system to watch movies and i changed the power scheme to always stay
on and set the screen to never turn off. yet during movie playback it always
seems to get changed back to 20 minuts. so ive created a new scheme and it
does that same thing. When i reboot however and verify the power options it
still shows never turn off, but after I watch a movie it changes it back to
20 minuts...
its Windows XP pro SP2 using power DVD to play movies... ive done searches
and all ive come up with as issues with saving the new scheme but I dont have
any issues with that it just changes by itself and its quite frustrating, I
also turns off AMD's CnQ in the bios thinking that it might be related to my
issue but it didnt change anything... I also verified in power dvd to see if
there's any options that would block the screensaver or screen power off but
nothing. Any one have an idea what's causing it to change by itself?

Start > Run > cmd > Type The Following And Hit Enter

powercfg /RestoreDefaultPolicies

(This command works only if you have Service Pack 2 installed.)

Re: Power scheme changes by itself
yeah that doesnt help every scheme if i try to set the screen to stay one all
the time it always resets back to 20 minuts after about 2 hours or so. if i
reboot and check the scheme its set to never turn off but after 2 hours it
turns off... and i check it again its set to 20 minuts its quite anoying i
must say!

I can relate. Only mine is in Vista. I have followed the suggested fix but
like you said it turns it back. I even deleted all the schemes except mine.
It still turns it back. I now can choose to restore default and it puts mine
back (as its the only one there) but it will change it back and back and back
each time I correct it. I would like a response from Microsoft on this issue
please.

I have the same problem and need a response. Someone told me energy star
settings in bios might be it so I will check that too.
