Defragmenting Question
Defragmenting won't work on my PC because I only have 6% available
disc space. Is there any value in deleting some programs in order to
get to the requisite 15% available space, defragment, then reload
those programs?

Re: Defragmenting Question
Sure, you could do that if you wanted to. But it would be a pain. Sounds
like what you really need is a larger hard disk.

Have you investigated other avenues for reclaiming disk space, like the
Disk Cleanup Wizard? You may also be able to reduce the amount of disk
space reserved for the Recycle Bin, TIF and restore points. But if what
you really need is a bigger hard disk, that's what you should get.

You could try using Diskeeper 2008 pro. Depending on the size of the
fragmented files, it may be able to defrag even with 6% free space. It
may take a while to finish because the free space is so low, but you
can simply turn on it's background defrag feature and continue to use
the PC as usual. It will defrag with idle system resources. Check in a
couple of days, and it ought to be done (depending on the extent of
fragmentation, file sizes, size of the drive etc maybe even sooner).
You can download free trial versions from the Diskeeper website at
