Incorrect volume size on C: drive
Hi there

I have an IBM notebook with Win XP SP2. When I check the properties on my C:
drive it says there is about 2 gig left of the 80.
This can’t be as there is not that many movies/ music/ apps on the machine.
I downloaded an app called “visdir” & scanned my computer & according to it
I have over 30 gig free which sounds about right.
I tried clearing my system restore & temp files & such but it still shows
the same.

Any idea what is causing windows to read that its almost full?
Thanks

Re: Incorrect volume size on C: drive
Show hidden files. (For instructions to do this post again.)

Use XP's built-in Search to find all files and folders on your Windows
drive larger than 'X' megabytes (your choice.)

Sort the results in decreasing order of size.

Re: Incorrect volume size on C: drive

Go to Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View, Advanced Settings and
verify that the box before "Show hidden files and folders" is checked
and "Hide protected operating system files " is unchecked. You may need
to scroll down to see the second item. You should also make certain that
the box before "Hide extensions for known file types" is not checked.

Notwithstanding there remain some files which remain hidden. You still
will not see the System Volume Information folder.

Others not visible include hiberfil.sys,Norton Protected Storage and
Rollback files.

One way sometimes the existence of these hidden files is revealed is in
the Most Fragmented Files list in a Disk Defragmenter Report.

I would be interested in seeing a Disk Defragmenter report. Open Disk
Defragmenter and click on Analyse. Select View Report and
click on Save As and Save. Now find VolumeC.txt in your My Documents
Folder and post a copy. Do this before running Disk Defragmenter as it
is more informative.

Hope this helps.
