Number Lock not auto-locked in windows after installed sp3
Last week, I updated to sp3 via windows update and the process during
updating was smooth and easy. However, the number lock of my Microsoft
Internet Keyboard didn't light up in windows automatically. I'm now need to
press the number lock key every time when I started to load windows. Pls help
me to fix this annoying problem.

OS: XP Pro SP3
Intel 915 chipset

The number lock lighted during POST and turned off when started to load
windows.

TIA

Check the BIOS for a setting.

Thanks Mike,
I've already checked the BIOS setting and the number lock is enabled. I've
also mentioned that the number lock lighted up during POST and only turned
off when windows started to load. Any clue?

TIA

No, sorry. That was my one bullet.

It has been previously posted that every version of Windows NT (NT,
2000, XP, 2003 and VISTA) is ignoring the BIOS setting for the Num
Lick key setting.

Some MVPs have posted a start-up procedure which would set the Num
Lock state. Please check the history in the general XP newsgroup.

I, too, have been looking for this, but the script from Kelly's Korner
does NOT appear to work on my XP Home (SP2) Sony laptop. I get the
"Enabled" and "Disabled" message box, but the actual key does NOT
follow. It will, however, follow what I have set in my BIOS, which was
my original solution.

Re: Number Lock not auto-locked in windows after installed sp3
Thanks to all of you.
I have downloaded and run the script from kellys-korner of no clue. I still
needed to press the number lock key manually every time I started to load
windows.
Is there any other way to work around?

TIA

Here is a site with more details:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweak_bookmarks.htm

Set Numlock State on Startup

Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY CURRENT USER\Control Panel\Keyboard\InitialKeyboardIndicators

0 = numberlock off
2 = numberlock on

If you want the numlock on at the welcome screen you also need to
change:

HKEY USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Keyboard\InitialKeyboardIndicators
same number values as above.
