halting and freezing and slow performance in windows explorer.
xphome sp2
i have been having this problem sporadically for a while now.
it seems to be getting much more pronounced.
wonder if anyone has a clue what might be the cause and a solution?

when i make a new folder, or change the name of a folder, the action becomes
halting, slowed or freezes and takes 30- 45 seconds to complete.
if i click on the tree rolldown in the windows explorer address bar, the
same type of halting freezing action takes place.
if i right click on a file, the menu is very slow to appear. this difficulty
also sometimes happen when i open a new explorer window.

anyone have an idea what is causing this and how i can fix it?
thanks.

This may be your answer:

"Right-click is slow or weird behavior caused by context menu handlers"

Re: halting and freezing and slow performance in windows explorer
How much RAM Memory?

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance
Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

You should be able to gather more information from Task Manager. With
the Processes tab open select View, Select, Columns and check the boxes
before Peak Memory Usage and Virtual Memory size. What are the figures
for the 6 processes using the largest amounts?

Do you leave the computer on 24/7

I would be interested in seeing a Disk Defragmenter report. Open Disk
Defragmenter and click on Analyse. Select View Report and
click on Save As and Save. Now find VolumeC.txt in your My Documents
Folder and post a copy. Do this before running Disk Defragmenter as it
is more informative.

These questions are asked to get background information not because I
think you might need to run Disk Defragmenter!

Hope this helps.
