Clock running slow.

I am running XP Home SP3 with 2GB RAM.
For some time my clock has been running slow. But besides telling the wrong
time what else is affected by this?

It's important to have the correct time on your computer. Replace the
battery on your motherboard. It's not difficult and the battery is a
common button-size battery.

Thanks, i was aware of its placement but wondered if its influence was other
than programs which are time dependant.

If the battery fails the BIOS loses it's settings. The computer will
not boot

Changing the battery will obviously have the same effect as it failing... a
modern bios should auto detect drives etc and boot with workable default
settings following a loss of backup power. However, worth re-booting and
going to the bios, write down the settings prior to the battery change - just
in case you need to manually restore afterwards!

Also have had a computer with simply a dodgy clock, battery was OK. If you
right click the time and go to the third tab 'internet time' you can resync
your clock to 'windows time' whenever you are on line.

I did not check to see if there were new posts.
The replacement was straightforward enough. Released the clip and out it
came.
Nothing else was touched and the new battery installed. On starting up i get
a "Bios not found". What has happened?

Without the battery the BIOS will 'forget' its settings in a second or
two. Ask your system vendor how to recover the default BIOS settings.
(Should be in your owners manual, but you might want to contact them
anyway.)
