I have p4 with 2.4 GHz processor and I have a licensed windows xp. But my
processor usage is 90 to 100% most of the time. The RAM is 512. Please solve

RE: Maximum Usage of Processor
512mb of ram is about min. for xp,increase the amount as much as you
can as outlined by the boards mfg or owners manual. Also, open task mgr
& see whats running, alot of unneeded programs will cause max. cpu usage.
One can/could also troubleshoot by useing Msconfig,as outlined in kb310560
Also, set youre page file to "let system manage"....

RE: Maximum Usage of Processor
On the same topic:
My P4 on a fresh installed XP always has the CPU usage running around 50++
to 60++. Is this normal for a P4 intel CPU?

Since it is a fresh XP there arent a lot of programs running, do u think
there is problem with the CPU?

Tks.

What is the image name of the process producing high CPU usage?

If it is one of the svchost entries you should use Process Explorer to
identify which.

Download Process Explorer.

For further information about Process Explorer see here:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...sExplorer.mspx

It would be helpful if you could post the Command Line of the svchost
process generating the excessive CPU usage. In Process Explorer place
cursor on Process and select Properties, Image.

What are your anti-virus and anti-spyware arrangements? What is your
firewall?

Hope this helps.

Re: Maximum Usage of Processor
How do you know it's a problem? What process is using the majority of
your CPU time?

Leonard

It could be System Idle. You will find a number of users in Google who
have posted that as a problem.
