jpg + Windows Picture Viewer + Desktop + WinXPSP2

I am running XP Home (SP2), and I'm not sure when, but I lost
the ability to view jpg files (stored in Desktop) with the Windows
Picture viewer. Bitmap and tif files work correctly.

When I double click on a .jpg file in
Desktop WindowsPicture viewer the program opens and closes

Already run regsvr32 Path/shimgvw.dll and regiter was succesful.

So the file associations seem correct.

Does anyone have more information?
