Trouble transfering pictures to a CD

Hi, I am having trouble tranfering my pictures to a cd. I follow the steps
that I have always followed; click on my computer, select the files to be
copied, click on copy the selected items, click on device "E" and then I get
a pop up that says:

E: \ is not accesible
The request could not be performed because an I/O device error.

Any suggestions? this problem started just a few weeks ago.

Is your CD rom ok? Can you read another CD from it? Can you burn other files
to it? Have you recently updated or uninstalled your burning software?

Just checking a few basic troubleshooting steps.
