FWIW...
If you would like for the file extensions
to be visible...open a folder and go to...
Tools / Folder Options / View tab...
uncheck "Hide Extensions For Known
File Types" / Apply / OK.
As for copying to the SD card...maybe
you are copying too many files to the root
directory. I get the "directory or file cannot
be created" if I copy more than 170 pictures
to the root directory of a 1 GB SD card.
Try using folders. When writing to a memory
card...digital cameras typically create a new
folder for each 100 pictures.
