HP Officejet 6310
I've install an HP Officejet 6310 to my computer. I've installed all the
software on my computer but when I try to launch the HP Solution Center,
nothing happens. I spent 2 1/2 hours on the phone with HP support --
uninstalling and reinstalling software -- and my problem could not be
resolved. Finally, the HP tech decided that my issue is with the Operating
System and I should contain Microsoft. I don't want to reinstall Windows. Any
other suggestions??

This is the best part: "Finally, the HP tech decided that my issue is
with the Operating System and I should contain Microsoft." When in
doubt, point your finger at the other guy. Other than frustration at
his or her inability to solve the problem with HP's software, what was
the reason the tech gave for deciding that the issue was with Windows?
Did you get any error messages? If so, please post complete text.

At this point, it will be very difficult for anyone not sitting in front
of your computer to figure out what's going on and what may have been done.

Some preliminary info *might* help --

What version and service pack of WinXP do you have?

What antivirus application(s) do you have installed? Did you disable
them (or better, uninstall them) prior to attempting to install the HP
software?

Does the "HP Solution Center" show in Start > All Programs? Is it
listed in Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (it might be listed as
"HP PSC & Officejet 6.0")?

Is the printer installed? Does it show up in Start > Printers and
Faxes? Can you print a test page? Can you print from an application,
such as Notepad?

Is the HP Digital Imaging Monitor icon in the notification area? What
happens if you try to scan something?

How is the 6310 connected to your computer - USB or Ethernet?

Finally, consider if you really want/need all of that HP software on
your computer, particularly the "Photosmart" package. If not, you can
install basic printer and scanner drivers available from HP at the link
below.

Note the caveat that "Not all product features are supported with this
installation package." I don't know what's missing.

Re: HP Officejet 6310

I too had trouble with failed installations and after ADD/REMOVE for all
HP software (XP OS on a PC), I went to the Task Manager
(CTL-ALT_DELETE), tabbed Processess, and scrolled down to HPZipm12.exe
and rightclicked to select "End Process Tree". I didn't reboot, but ran
the HP CD setup.exe and the installation went perfect. Hope this helps.
