Windows Updates - WSUS

We have started using WSUS to get updates for all the windows servers and
clients on our network.
We have a WSUS server V2 happily getting updates from a parent server, the
client WSUS settings(both server and XP) are are configured in an OU policy.
We have a problem with the XP clients not reporting their status in the WSUS
web browser - our servers do show which updates are required.

All the settings in the user and computer templates appear ok.
We have the firewall service running but have switched the firewall off on
our test machine - still no status report.
The update service and BITS service are running

Does anyone know of any policy settings that might be preventing the XP
clients reflecting their status.

Hi Ed,
Is the time and date set correctly on the client machine(s)?.
What happen if you Stopped the BITS then restart it again?.

Note: does the client machines configured to get the latest Updates for the
page on the IE Browser settings under General >> Settings ?, it may still
caching an old Page and showing the status.

Thank you for response and the link to the to the discussions group..

I did check the time on the client machine I was working on - I ran "net
time /domain:domain.com /set" - but it didn't help.

I have left the problem at work for the night and will follow up your
suggestion tomorrow.

Here with our resolution

After reading the logs there were 0x80248008 errors being reported.
They all pointed at IIS issues. Our problem was resolved by starting the
default Pool service in the Application Pools directory.
All our xp and w2003 clients are picking up their updates.
