Authentication succeeded message on Network Adapter

When authenticating using 8021x my network adapter on my Windows XP laptop
always says connected. How do I get it to say authenticated succeeded when
authenticating using 8021x. I even upgraded my service pack to SP3 and that
didn't do the trick.
