Music/pictures gone
When logging onto the laptop the welcome screen said administrator. When we
got into windows in user accounts (control pannel) we changed administrator
to our name. Now (even though it says our name with administrator under it
when viewing user accounts) all our music and picutures have gone missing.
We've apparently "changed" our name by creating a second user account with
Administrative privileges. We have XP Pro and were originally using the
built-in Administrator account.
Can someone tell me how to get them back as I've been going through the
forum or should I just do a system restore for the previous day?

System restore will not help - that is for system files. You have to back
up your own stuff...

Reboot. At the "Welcome Screen" - press CTRL+ALT+DEL twice in a row. Log
on as "administrator" by typing the name in - put whatever password (if any)
you used to utilize to logon as that user.

Or...

Logged in as your new user - explore to C:\Documents and Settings\ and find
the old user account and look around under its directory. Desktop, My
Documents (may be seen as "Administrator's documents"), Favorites, etc and
copy what you need/want to your new profile. Don't copy EVERYTHING - just
the files you created/etc.

Re: Music/pictures gone
Would changing the profile name delete files, that's why I thought doing a
system restore might get me the files back. I'm not able to get into the
previous profile, everytime I try it says access denied

If there *is* a previous profile (as you say) you did not 'just rename it'.
;-)

You need to take ownership of the old files - or - did you try the logon
method I gave you?

In any case...

How to Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421

Read *carefully* - do not just skim the page and start following steps.
There is important information there dependent on the version of Windows XP

Now you've got Shenan answering duplicate questions - questions that I
already responded to, and to which Shenan gave you exactly the same answers
as I did. Go back to your original thread in your original newsgroup. This
is *not* a security question and multiposting is *not* a nice thing to do.

Asked and answered in the other newsgroup to which you posted. Please don't
multipost; it makes more work for everyone and will get you *less* help,
not more. See this for why:

If you have forgotten where you posted or can't find your post, use Google
Groups Advanced Search and search for your name.
