Setting Printer Permissions in XP Home Edition
I am running Windows XP Home Edition 2002 SP3. I cannot get the security tab
to appear to change the permissions on my printer. I have tried holding the
ctrl key like help suggests. I have tried safe mode, but the printers do not
show up in safe mode. I also have tried the tips on www.dougknox.com. Any
other suggestions?

What permissions are you trying to change? XP Home doesn't allow for setting
fine-grained permissions; i.e., where you might have one user group that is
allowed to print and another one that isn't.

What are you trying to accomplish (your end goal)?

Re: Setting Printer Permissions in XP Home Edition
I have been able to access the security tab on a Windows XP Media Edition. I
need to set the permission so that "EVERYONE" can manage the printer.

The problem presented itself when I added a Vista 64-bit system to our XP
32-bit network. I have to have a different driver for the Vista system. Our
printer is an HP 8150d printer. It has a duplex unit installed, but the
Vista system does not automatically recieve those settings, so I need to
manually set them. I can't do that unless I can set the permissions on the
XP system to permit everyone to manage the printer.

I hope the helps explain the situation better.

Thanks,
James

Yes, it does. To get the security tab in Windows Media Center Edition go to
Folder Options>View tab and uncheck the last option, "Use Simple File
Sharing". The file system must also be formatted NTFS.
