Transfer info from bad Windows file to new WinXP Folder
I got the dreaded hal.dll error. I tried to repair the OS using the install
CD but it hangs when I try to boot from it. I reinstalled WinXP on the same
drive (in WinXP folder instead of Windows folder on drive C). All my programs
are on drives D & E. How can I transfer all my user prefs (such as desktop,
start menu, etc) to the new install? Or is there another option to fix the
original install?

You would have been better off to run a repair installation, you will now
need to reinstall all your programs

I tried to run a repair installation but it is asking for a file and freezes
up. I will try to re-run the repair install and see what happens.

If you have a freeze whilst running a repair installation you have some
other hw fault
You have visited your HD manu site and downloaded their HD checking utility?
