XP SP3 refusing serialnumber?
I have streamed a new XP professional CD with the Service pack 3 RC,
and as usual tried it out in a virtual machine as I leave out some
things.
Whatever code (Legal! Not ripped off the internet or such!) I enter it
keeps refusing it, claiming the Product Id is not valid.
Is this due to virtualisation, or is it an error somewhere?

Having not attempted to slipstream the SP3 Release Candidate into an
installation media myself - I cannot say for sure.

It could just be that the RC doesn't slipstream well.

Remember - SP3 is *not* final yet.

What type of licensed CD did you slipstream it into?

RE: XP SP3 refusing serialnumber?
XP SP3 RC is a simple install,it doesnt ask for any serial numbers nor does
it check installed software as did/does SP2..."Left out some things" maybe
too
much..

Andrew E.,

Read and comprehend, not just the former. ;-)

They slipstreamed SP3 RC into their Windows XP Installation Media...
Windows XP Installation Media *does* require a product key (serial number.)

They are not trying to simply install SP3 RC. They are trying to utilize an
installation CD they integrated/slipstreamed SP3 RC into to do a clean
installation.

According to Microsoft SP3 will add the behaviour of Vixxa to XP: you
can leave the serial number out... and have to enter it after 30 days.

No shenanigans.
