XP install failure
I am trying to install XP (32) Pro on a new Gateway and it blue screens with
the shadow caching error. I am not sure what is the issue as it may be many.
It is a Gateway FX530XV (it was ordered with Vista but was available for
order with XP)
It has an Intel Core 2 Duo Quad Proc Q6600 (set for Core multiplexing in
BIOS), Intel motherboard with on board RAID configured with a SATA based RAID
5 array, 3GB (dual cannel non-ECC) DDR@ Ram.
I cannot find a shadow cache setting in the BIOS, it could be the Quad Proc,
the RAID,... I found one suggestion that 64bit would work, but I don't happen
to have that to try right now. Gateway would not tell me the difference
between BIOS or other settings for the XP vs. VISTA version without paying
for the info and I don't trust that they will give me the right info.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Re: XP install failure
Where in the process are you getting this error? You may need to use the F6
option to provide the hard drive controller drivers via floppy during setup.
I had a similar problem downgrading an HP.

Re: XP install failure
Is blues out right after it finishes loading all the files. Just as it is
starting to load the first question screen. It seems to go through the driver
loading o.k., but I'll see if I can get the INTEL driver and try that for the
RAID.

Re: XP install failure
Yup, same place as the HP, supplying the proper driver took care of the
problem.

Re: XP install failure
Well, I've tried a few variants on the RAID driver and none seem to work.
Same blue screen. ending in a stop error and a reference to pci.sys if that
helps any.

Re: XP install failure
Is this a Gateway supplied XP disk or your own? IF your own is it SP2 level?
