Install XP Pro using downgraded Vista Business Open License ?
Hi,

It's no longer possible to buy XP Pro licenses but I think there's
downgrade rights. However the only MS part (Mfg#: 66J-00724) appears to
be a Vista Business Upgrade license. Can that be used to install XP
Pro? Or is there a full version I'm not seeing? Surprise surprise the
MS documentation is somewhat confusing

Thanks

FWIW, I just read an article stating that XP is still available for
sale through 6/30/08 and that Steve Ballmer hinted, during a speech in
Europe, that the XP death date may be extended.

Where'd you get the fact you cannot purchase Windows XP Professional
licenses?
The calendar on my desk says April 24, 2008. Microsoft set the cut-off date
to June 30, 2008.

Examples:

Buy.com

These are retail packs, not licenses

Notice the last link I gave...
http://www.microsoft.com/products/in...542d5#HowToBuy

I purposely put the internal link in there so it would scroll to that area.
It does show the full packs *and* a link for just licenses (although to be
truthfull - unless you are getting into the double-digits in number of
licenses, isn't much of a monetary savings. And if getting into
double-digits in number of licenses, you'd be better off getting a volume
license, IMHO.)

In case you miss it:

"Other Purchase Options
Licensing
It's easy to order additional licenses for Windows XP Professional. Both
Full Version and Version Upgrade licenses are available.

Hope that helps.

Re: Install XP Pro using downgraded Vista Business Open License ?
Perhaps some XP licenses are available for a couple of months more. I
cannot buy an Open Business license from my reseller now. I would still
like to know the answer to my question (as I do not plan to upgrade all
of the computers at my business to Vista).

Try other resellers. Always good to keep many in your pocket - having one
doesn't keep anyone competitive.

See Carey's response.
