Not knowing your system nor how the original manufacturer/reseller set it
up - I cannot say with any certainty that you do/do not have a restoration
process that involves no external media of any type.

Not knowing you or your friends/family/co-workers - I cannot say with any
certainty that you do/do not have access to a generic Windows XP CD of the
same version/license type that would accept the product key your machine
came with.

Use / start / help to investigate SYSTEM RESTORE
Its value to your problem depends how this function was
set up earlier, i.e. what dates were used to save the OS.

Re: boot with out disc
Perhaps your system supplier has a recovery partition?
And instructions on their site on how to create the recovery disk(s)

Re: boot with out disc
Other option is to look for an i386 folder on the HD, and burn this to CD. As
it won't be bootable you will also need a bootdisk, you can get one from
http://www.bootdisk.com

You run winnt.exe from DOS, or winnt32.exe from Windows/WinPE to launch the
setup.

That only works in certain circumstances

Re: boot with out disc
Specifically, you cannot do a repair install on NTFS when booted from DOS.
But, that should be possible when booted from Win/BartPE.

HST, my experience with manufacturer's recovery disks/partitions is that
they have no better than an average success-rate. That, and they may
reinstall all of the junk (e.g. norton) as well as Windows.
