You need to create a partition, then format the partition,
then install Windows XP. See the following:

The new hard drive says it accepts XP in many of its configurations
including XP Pro which I have the original disc.
I reinstalled XP Pro on a failing hard drive last night...it took 12
hours !!!
I bought a the new hard drive this morning and tried to install the
same XP Pro from the same disc.
It says it is not a valid Windows disc after it goes through all the
initializations to accept an OS.....
What can I do?????????
TIA
