SP3 restarts system (non-AMD), crashes game, don't connects
Can't get this ironed out, I've looked for a bug discussion this place is the
best fit. My system restarts, without error popup, so I can't see what's
causing a problem. I do send the event log bug reports. System Performance
and Event Logs and Error Report Service is 'started', I just don't get a
System App stopped/will shutdown dialogue anymore.
Restarted computer is a problemat when I run WoW (Warcraft). Which was rock
solid.. until I upgraded the graphics card (8800gt pci-e 512Mb ddr3) and
downloaded WinXP SP3. My directX version is 9.0c, my graphics driver was
geforce 175.16, I followed game site trouble shooting advice and installed
the graphics card manuf.'s provided graphics driver - geforce 169.02 there's
no appreciable benefit there.
There is no Service in MMC that has a Recovery setting of 'Automatic
Restart' and the same goes for Advanced section --> Startup and Recovery -->
System Failure (auto restart unchecked) of Device Manager under my configs. I
can't find what is causing this bug through the configuration interfaces.
I saw workarounds for AMD machines using Google search, that describe the
same restart problem as an incorrect intelppm.sys code image. If I try that
registry hack, Device Manager says my cpu cores have a problem with a service
unavailable, due a driver being disabled. Uninstalling the duo-core cpu and
restarting teh comp just resets the original registry values for intelppm in
ControlSet001 and ControlSet002. intelppm.sys (intelppm.exe?) may be part of
the problem because Warcraft is playable for hours after I set the Registry
value given in the restart bug workaround (before the inevitable crashes
anyway) and my machine is 775LGA Intel P4 D duo-core.
My system platform is Wintel. With some frigging around in MMC teh machine
has become a little more stable. Except when running the principal
application of my superlative hardware platform. Namely online games. I had
similar problems with America's Army, as well, but once again shot everything
dead ..eventually. Network is a just standalone comp hooked up via ethernet
NIC to cable/router modem. SP3 Task Manager no longer sees me as a user. I
somehow rigged dhcp to my local network (me) with the primary and secondary
DNS addresses. But I have no idea how the isp gateway address and isp address
get from the numbers I see to the one's given by my isp. I guess my speakers
are peripherals in that network, they work okay for online sound ingame or
over net site browser page sound files and stuff, so yeh... it's a LAN ;p
It took some time using Microsoft Management Console: Services to set the
desktop straight just to this point but I am unable to solve the black screen
crash bug/restart bug/graphics glitch which besets WoW (World of Warcraft).
