Setting up a SATA Drive

I want to install Windows XP Pro, it's a brand new PC, and I want to get
this up and running ASAP, nothing fancy. I can always go back and configure
the drive and RAID or whatever.
What do I have to do to get a simple SATA drive install? What do I have to
do during the intial installation of the OS?
I'm using a brand new operating system bought 2 years ago from a PC store.
I paid about $150 bucks for Windows XP Pro.

Connect the new SATA drive to the SATA 1 port, boot the computer, go into
the BIOS and verify the drive was recognized, change the boot order to boot
from your CD/DVD drive first, insert the XP CD into the drive, save the BIOS
settings and reboot, . You'll be given an option to press any key to boot
from the CD, press Enter (or any key), you'll boot from the XP CD and it
will then ask about where to install, format drive, etc.

You mean hook it up to the one of the yellow SATA110 connectors, there are 3
of them, and there is one purple GSATA110/1 connector. The three yellow
connectors are called SATA110/1/2/3/4/5 in the motherboard manual. So from
what I get here, your saying hook the yellow cable up to one of the yellow
connectors and don't hook anything up to the purple connector?

From my experience (not vast) in trying to install XP on a SATA drive, XP
having been written before SATA was invented, does not recognise SATA disk
without special drivers, and MS have not bothered to add these to the CDs.
Early in the XP setup it will ask 'press F6 if you need to load SATA/RAID
drivers'. If you do not press F6 and/or do not have a floppy disk with such
drivers on it the Setup will fail at a point where it will tell your HD is
corrupted. If you have an OS already using SATA on the system you might find
the drivers in there. In my case, with Intel the files were called things
like iastor.sys as part of Intel Matrix Storage and I could copy them from
the Vista install. (I can supply the full list if you want it.)
If you have no floppy drive, I think you have a problem. (I got round that
by connecting an old floppy drive to the motherboard. There may be other
ways round it.)

You have to read the mobo manual, some require the boot sata drive to be
connected to a specific connector.
Then there maybe bios settings that require editing.
Once thats done, you follow the procedure that was posted in your other
thread
