Windows SATA driver installation warning...
Hi,
We just upgraded an HP NC8430 with memory and went from the original 100GB
SATA drive to a Seagate Momentus 7200.2 200GB SATA drive.
I restored the image I captured from the original configuration via Altiris
and the machine boots ok. When I log in to Windows I get a prompt warning me
that Windows is about to install a "Disk drive" driver but it does not meet
the Windows logo requirements and asking if I wish to continue.
For now, I am not proceeding until I get some advice - as it is now, if I
look at the disk drive properties in Device Mangler, it states it is an
ST92xxxx, which is the correct model number for this Seagate drive, however
all the other fields such as manufaturer, driver, etc. are all either blank
or read "unknown."
The notebook has an Intel chipset, including the AHCI controller, and as far
as I can tell all the controller and device drivers are up to date. The BIOS
is the latest as well.
Before I go hosing this install, what are the consequences of allowing
Windows to install this unkown driver?
I realize I have a working image I can always replace if necessary, but
considering how large the image files are it will take more than three hours
to restore so I would prefer not to have to go down that road.
Any ideas, advice, suggestions?
Thanks!

RE: Windows SATA driver installation warning...
The drive must be external as desktop drives usually run on windows
drivers, created back in 2001.The drive controller SATA or IDE,usually gets
updated and runs on the boards chipset driver installation..Either way,the
driver
xp wants to install is fine,if it doesnt meet the requirments, that usually
means
its not certified thru WHQL (microsoft),& doesnt have digital
signatures..Even
some of microsoft drivers/software doesnt get certified.
