importing video

I am trying to import video from my Sony Handycam HDR - HC5E but it keeps
dropping frames so that I end up with a series of stilted images. I get an
error message to check 'import enviromental settings in the Troubleshooting
section of Help'. I do not know which Help is being referred to and I cannot
find any reference to these settings. I am not sure if they are for the
camera or the computer but I have spoken to Sony and they were unable to
help. They did not think it was the camera. If anyone could help I would be
most grateful.

Just wondering...are you connecting to
your computer via the IEEE 1394 cable?

John - thanks for replying. Yes I am using IEEE 1394 cable. As it is HDV I
don't think there is any other way of transferring the video footage.

Not true

I used to use USB with a Panasonic GS-35, but I have now installed a
firewire (IEEE 1394) card

I can't be sure whether this has improved my video at all, but I'll keep
using firewire

I still have some problems with the software/hardware when writing to DVD,
but that's another story. (The only solution seems to be "Try, try and try
again")
