Can not see Open applications in taskbar

When minimizing an application, it disappears. It no longer is shown in my
taskbar at the bottom of my screen. The only way to get back to the
application is by getting into taskmanager and opening the program there. I
can see the taskbar and it is working fine...stays on top...I do not group
item together and the taskbar is not locked.....how can I get my open
application to show on the bottom taskbar?
Any guidance is greatly appreciated.
Really need help.
