Remote Desktop Web Connection
Earlier today I set up a WinXP Pro computer to be accessed via Remote Desktop
Web Connection (following a Microsoft guide and forwarding the proper ports).
Afterwards attempting to connect to the computer using the method the guide
suggested (IP.IP.IP.IP:Port/tsweb/) yields the result:

The web page cannot be displayed. Most likely cause: Some content or files
on this webpage require a program that you don't have installed.

I've tried from both a WinXP Pro machine with the IIS services installed and
my home PC on XP Home without IIS. Neither IExplorer window asks me to
install the web connection ActiveX control that the microsoft guide detailed
would happen. Any ideas on what is happened, or more importantly what isn't
happening?

Re: Remote Desktop Web Connection
I can telnet (but not login) using just the public IP, if I append the port I
specified after the IP I get "Could not open connection to the host, on port
23: Connect failed."

Re: Remote Desktop Web Connection
assuming what you just said was not a typo or error in communcication I'm
going to say no. Following the guide I changed the default RDWC TCP port from
80 to 916. When I tried telnet I tried both just the public IP address of my
company which asked for password, and the specific port I assigned appended
to the public IP which returned the "could not connect to host on port 23:
connection failed". I'm using telnet via the start > Run command, and using
the 'O' option to open connection to IP. Is this correct or is my lack of
experience causing a problem?
