PPTP takes 4 attempts to all locations after getting new PC

I setup a new HP laptop and began setting up multiple PPTP VLAN connections
that I use when working and managing customers servers remotely. With this
new Windows XP SP3 system it takes me 4 attempts everytime to connect to any
PPTP VLAN at many different locations. I have tried several things locally
with no success.

I did not have this problem on my previous system and do not have this
problem on other XP or Vista systems running from the same source network.
There is nothing special about this new laptop and was installed with HP
factory created disks. I already called HP and tried flashing the BIOS and
updating NIC driver. No avail.

Any help or suggestions for troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated. I
do connect, but it takes about 4 minutes will all of the attempts and
timeouts.
